Moving on from Velvet Teddy – Mac Mehr

If you saw my last post, you’ll know that I am reluctantly accepting the fact that Mac’s wildly popular Velvet Teddy just doesn’t work for me. I’m very fair skinned (NW15) & the shade that looks so glorious on other people & in online swatches becomes a flat brown ‘nothing special’ shade as soon as it touches my skin. I can’t even hope to use it at times of the year when I have a tan; even before I became largely housebound with the Chronic Daily Migraine, I was not a sunworshipper. More of a sun desperately-avoider.

All is not lost however. I have found a shade in Mac’s matte range that suits my skin tone much better. It’s so exactly the shade of lipstick I like, I can’t figure out how I have only discovered it in the last couple of months….although the Chronic Life I’ve been living may have something to do with it 😜…. I have a new lipstick love in the form of Mehr.

I love everything about this lipstick.  The matte formula is long lasting & applies easily with none of the annoying dragging that can happen with other mattes. Coverage is opaque without being patchy. The shade itself is so versatile;  it can be incorporated into both day & night makeup looks. If you’re wondering why my Mehr looks a little odd in the above pic, it’s because lipstick should not be left in a warm car, in a pool of sunlight, on a hot summer day for many hours. I managed to save it with makeup wipes & a short spell in the fridge; just as well or I may have cried actual tears over it.

I think what I like about Mehr colour-wise is, while there is a fair amount of brown involved, there  is also enough of a rosey mauve going on that it doesn’t look flat against my skin tone like Velvet Teddy does. This shade is great for when I’m not well enough to attempt full makeup but HAVE to get to a hospital appointment (ah, the joys of Chronic Life). A little mineral powder, quick work with the eyebrow pencil, Mehr & my nice dark sunglasses is all it takes to stop me scaring people in the waiting room….unless I’m rocking or pacing with the pain, in which case Mehr would need actual magical powers to stop everyone noticing that I’m struggling 😏. Still, if I’m taking my chronically ill self out to look weird in public, my lips might as well be fabulous!

As for Velvet Teddy, he (yep, Velvet Teddy is a he in the world of me) is sculking at the bottom of my makeup bag, just biding time until I next think ‘maybe if I try it with this lipliner…’

For now Mehr is the lipstick I reach for most often. Admittedly I can be a little faithless with regards to my favourite shades but Mehr is fast becoming a staple product for me – I will flirt with other shades but Mehr has a permanent place in my heart and my makeup bag.

Are you a fan of Mehr? Does it suit darker skin tones too?

Wishing you good luck & happy days,

Kindra x

    1. That’s a good idea, I will. This blog is my 1st venture into beauty based blogging, my YouTube channel is about living with chronic pain. But I do have a lot of experience of using makeup to make you look better than you feel so I might as well blog it πŸ™‚ Thanks for stopping by & being supportive x

  1. Ooo I love them both, I need to add Mehr to my collection, for sure. I’m NW10 and love Velvet Teddy, although don’t pick it up as often as my other lippies.

    1. Mehr is definitely worth the money, it’s the one I reach for most often by far. Velvet Teddy is just mocking me; do you have a fave lipliner you use with it? Thanks for stopping by πŸ™‚
