Note: I put it down to the pain meds I had to take last night but I somehow managed to publish an incomplete draft of this post by mistake – oops! Here is the complete review. Apologies for any confusion 😊.
When checking out beauty blogs and YouTube videos in search of a concealer recommendation, one cropped up repeatedly: Mac’s Pro Longwear Concealer. It was particularly popular among those using concealer underneath their eyes to minimise darkness and brighten the look of the eye area. Chronic pain & insomnia play havoc with my under eye area so I decided to treat myself to the Pro Longerwear Concealer as part of my recent Mac haul.
I went for NW15, which interestingly is the shade I go for in Mac foundation. You’d think being the same shade that the concealer wouldn’t do the under eye job but actually it’s perfect in this regard – it is just a touch lighter than my Pro Longwear Foundation. If I’d gone for a lighter NW shade in the concealer I’d have ended up with bright white under eyes; not the look we’re aiming for when trying to hide dark circles!
In terms of coverage this is a serious concealer. It’s a little thinker than other products I’ve tried aimed at under eyes but not so think that it’s gloopy or hard to blend. It brightens up my under eye area beautifully. I recommend using a beauty blender to blend but obviously everyone has their own favourite methods. I made sure to apply in the upside down triangle shape under the eye rather a semi circle and I looked much more awake as a result 🙂
The other thing I love about this concealer is that it STAYS PUT. I set it with NYX setting powder and it didn’t shift all day. Equally important – once I’d blended properly and made sure it hadn’t settled in fine lines, it didn’t crease all day either. Woo hoo!
The one thing that annoys me about this product is the pump. A little goes a long way with this concealer and I’m not heavy handed when applying concealer & foundation – I like to use the minimum amount of product to get the job done. I find that one pump of this product is more than I need for both eyes, so product either goes to waste or I end up applying more than I’d prefer. The glass packaging feels nice and substantial but I’m concerned that dropping it once on the bathroom floor could end in tears.
Overall this by far the best concealer I’ve ever used under my eyes. It stays put, doesn’t crease and covers my serious dark circles well. I planned to show you the results in photos but I’ve had a very high pain week, so while my under eyes looked brightened and awake, the rest of me was a grim sight!
Are you a fan of this concealer? Do you own a different concealer that’s a holy grail product for you?
